Hunter
890
Gamo is the
largest air gun manufacturer in Europe. Shooters in
over 50 countries all over the world use Gamo rifles
and pistols. The air rifle I am reviewing is the model
Hunter 890 in .22 caliber with a factory option BSA
3-12x50 scope which has an adjustable objective and ¼
MOA target knobs. This superb air rifle has a nice
quality blued finish, beech wood stock, ventilated
recoil pad, and a Monte Carlo style stock with raised
check piece. Overall length is 44” and the rifle
weighs only 7.5 pounds with the scope. The Hunter 890
has an adjustable trigger, factory set at 3-3/4
pounds. The muzzle brake doubles as a cocking handle,
requiring 38-pounds of pull. The length of barrel
gives enough leverage so it is not a problem to cock.
The .22 caliber has a 700-fps rating although this
rifle measured 722 fps out of the box.
This
air rifle is a high quality manufactured product with
a lot of thought put into the design to aid in
reliability. I have fired this air rifle countless
times at targets and annoying black birds raiding the
feeders and accuracy is very good under 40 yards. Over
that distance and the pellet is susceptible to windage
and loses velocity quickly. The large scope comes is
real handy when precision shooting
is necessary, like shooting the black birds
without hitting the sparrows and finches.
