Have
you ever wondered what you would do if you became lost
stranded or have the need to survive? Anyone who goes
out into the wilderness probably thinks of these things
because it's a part of planning. Planning for the "what
ifs".
Last year while hunting in northeastern PA, a man got
separated from his buddies and didn't know the woods
in that area. He ended up getting lost, and didn't know
the way out. To make matters worse it had started to
snow and became quite cold. So to make a long story
short, the Park Rangers found him at about two in the
morning with the help of bloodhounds. He was cold, hungry,
and very embarrassed. Have a plan.
In planning, take along essential gear to make your
time out enjoyable. One thing you should have is some
sort of survival kit.
The good people at "SURVIVAL INCORPORATED" www.survivalinc.com
sent me their Ultimate Survival Deluxe Tool Kit. This
kit was designed for AIR FORCE pilots and others who
require survival tool's that are compact, lightweight,
yet exceptionally durable and capable superior performance
in the most extreme marine, arctic, desert, and wooded/jungle
environment. The tools and accessories in this kit should
be in the backpack or pocket of anyone engaged in outdoor
recreation.
The kit is packed with five things to make survival
or rescue a capable task for anyone.
*The
STAR FLASH- signal mirror is virtually unbreakable and
floats. NASA, the U.S. AIR FORCE, NAVY, and MARINES
use the STAR FLASH because of its trademarked sight-though-the-lens
targeting star, which allows the user to aim the signal
flash precisely at the target.
*The
SABER CUT- is a flexible hand chainsaw with a self-cleaning
blade, which cuts in both directions. This is a good
tool for cutting limbs to make a shelter or for firewood.
*The WET FIRE- is a fire starting tinder that lights
and burns when wet. It emits essentially no smoke and
is non toxic. It cools instantly when put out so it
can be used again. (I've seen it put out by closing
your fist over it)
*The BLAST MATCH- is a fire starter built around a flint
bar that is more than two inches long and 1/2 an inch
in diameter. This tool can be operated with one hand
and allows the user to generate an intense stream of
sparks to start fires or light stoves in any weather.
*The JET SCREAM WHISTLE- is one of the world's loudest
whistles. JET SCREAM creates a piercing shriek audible
above most natural or man-made noise. This is good for
communicating in the outdoors.
*The
HARD CACHE CARRING CASE- This is a hard, lightweight,
watertight case, that's virtually indestructible. You
can pack all five essentials into this case and store
it in your backpack, glove compartment, boat, or coat
pocket.
