Casio The Pathfinder

I've always been a firm believer that information is knowledge and knowledge is power. If you have the knowledge of the information of your surroundings, you have the power to make appropriate decisions.

Casio(www.casio.com) has a line of watches called their pathfinder series. The one I would like to talk about is the PAT400L-1V watch. This watch is loaded with features to give you plenty of information about wherever you are. Of course, what good would a watch be if it didn't tell time, but along with telling time it has a digital compass, a barometer, an altimeter, a thermometer, and a stopwatch. Some of the other features include an electroluminescent backlight, an auto light switch, and water resistance up to 100 meters.

Digital compass: Having a digital compass on your wrist helps eliminate some of the gear you should carry while traveling in the outdoors. This watch measures displays in sixteen directions. It has a measuring range of 0 to 359 degrees. It has five sets of measurement data, which include direction, month, date, measurement time, abnormal magnetic field detection function, and bi-directional calibration function. This feature should not replace a good compass, but is handy to have when trying to find a quick location reference.

Barometer: The barometer is a nice feature to have while in the outdoors. This feature allows you to know if the weather is going to change before it actually does. There is a barometer graph displayed on the timepiece above the time function. This is a really good feature for anyone that spends a lot of time in the outdoors.

Altimeter: An altimeter is a good feature to have if you are traversing rugged terrain. It is important to know not just how far you've traveled, but also how far you've ascended or descended. Your altitude dictates many variables in the outdoors. This watch estimates altitude based on air pressure. This means that altitude readings for the same location may vary if air pressure changes. This tool can be used hand in hand with the barometer.

Thermometer: Having a temperature reading while dealing with a hot or cold climate is vital to making decisions for your comfort. In the cold, it gives you the ability to tell how fast the temperature is dropping; in hot weather, it can allow you to make proper decisions on hydration according to your activity.

Some of the other features that make this a nice timepiece are the stopwatch, the electroluminescent backlight, the water resistant capacity, and the feature that I especially liked, the auto light switch. This feature allows you to do an activity in the dark and still be able to find out information without having to use both hands. It's just a tilt of the wrist.
